Consider:

Since when does KMail echo SMTP progress messages to the status bar 
(other than "Sending message x of y: <subject>")? Is ESR perhaps 
referring to the separate "sending messages" window?

Beside that, this and the recent KDE usability study show that KMail 
obviously performs very well here already, so to all the usability 
people:

1. Thanks!
2. Don't overdo it ;-)

I find it most interesting that non-integrated applications consistently 
performed better in the productivity area. So esp. the Kontact people 
should read the results at
