yes. we try to _strongly_ encourage this mode of operation. once we have some 
idea of what general direction we'd like to take, the developer should indeed 
be brought in.

probably too much noise for most ... including them when they are impacted is 
probably good enough, though the more who can join the list, the better. no 
doubt about tha.t
