Well, I can tell you the contrary: actually https is working on my SuSE 7.2.

SuSE updated his RPMs, at least the ones at ftp.suse.com, they are from 
16-08-2001.

BTW, I downloaded from 
ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/KDE/update_for_7.2/
That's a quite fast German mirror.
