No, you made a valid question.

You didn't understand it was an option. That's okay. Christian was responding
to a comment made by someone who did understand it was optional but still 
didn't like the thing. It's okay if you don't like a certain feature as long
as it can be configured and doesn't bloat the code. 

Personally, I love Mac menubars. Obviously, so do Mac users ;-) I find myself
running Motif and Xaw apps and still going for that top menubar... If it's not
for you that's fine too. It's not even the default.

You think this turned into a flame?? No, for a group of what seems to be
primarily Linux users this was a relatively calm exchange ;-) Note I use Linux
too...
