package: kfm
version: 1.167.2.11

After Iīve compiled and installed kde 1.1.1, kfm doesnīt recognize GIFs any
more. This is very annoying, because it has no use any more as web browser.
I looked in INSTALL and README of kdebase-1.1.1, but didnīt find any hint that
some extra configuration flag is needed. configure seems to recognize libgif in
/opt/kde/lib and sets HAVE_LIBGIF correctly in config.h. JPEG recognition works.
When checking with ldd, kfm is not linked against libgif (does it even need that
library or uses it some other? I couldnīt check that, because I donīt have the
former binary any more that I built from source of KDE 1.1).

Also, the image viewer kview (Version 1.8) doesnīt read GIFs any more (did it
ever?) Is it a configuration problem?

Current configuration:

QT Libraries: libqt.so.1.44
no QT extensions installed (are these missing?)

Kernel 2.2.5
Distribution: SuSe 6.0 (with own upgrades)

libgif.so.3.0.0
libjpeg.so.6.0.1

I donīt know if itīs appropriate, but Iīd be grateful if I could have a short
feed-back. Iīve had an excellent working KDE 1.1 before, and now, after hours
of work, it seems spoilt, and I feel totally stuck. Is this really an issue or
only caused by my stupidity?
