I don't understand what exactly what you mean by 1) 2a) and 2b)

3) Kmilo was running. Stopping it rendered the buttons on the headset and the volume \
control buttons on the laptop inoperative. There were then also no global shortcuts \
in kmix. Assigning them and pressing the button made kmix react to both the headhone \
controls and the laptop buttons. All three sets of buttons now control whichever \
master channel is selected. It does not seem possible to differentiate controls, e.g. \
for the multimedia keys to control the system sound device and the headphone buttons \
to control the headphones.

4) I've never used them but they seem to work.

5) N/A (using 3.5.9)
