Whether Amarok is launched within Ubuntu 7.10, Kubuntu 8.04, Mandriva Spring 8.1 or \
the latest Mint Linux, I get only occasional right channel audio from the Live CDs, \
less often after installation, and never after updates. This applies to a Gateway \
600YGR laptop with an ESS Allegro 1988 (aka Maestro) sound card - a pretty common \
configuration for Gateway laptops. I have a dual-boot system with XP Pro on the \
primary drive and Mint Linux on the secondary. No matter which Linux version I \
install (I've tried a dozen or so variants), even if the hardware is properly \
identified, it isn't properly driven.  Sadly, I don't know how to write or compile my \
own drivers. When I reboot in XP, the audio works perfectly every time.
