You must tell OO that j2re is available.  You can do this by running
<openoffice.org_install_dir>/program/jvmsetup from your home directory, e.g.:

$ cd
$ /usr/lib/openoffice/program/jvmsetup

Pick browse from the menu to pick your installation, e.g.:
/usr/java/j2re1.4.1_01

There you go...
