Not a kde issue. Use mixerctl to get sound out from the cd drive.

Not really, because there are other tings in kde multimedia that do not
need this. And you figured out yourself what you are missing for this
specific application...

I'll probably suggest installing lame and oggenc in a MESSAGE/DESCR, but
I don't see why I should tie kdemultimedia down to those apps.

After all, we don't tie kdebase to xpdf, though it can use pdfinfo to
display information about pdf files...
