Subject: ZfD3.2 question

Hello all -

I have a test ZfD3.2 application. It is set to launch notepad and then
force a reboot. When run, it does NOT launch notepad but does reboot.

When I change the application properties to reboot when needed, and then
run the app, notepad launches with no problem (and of course a reboot is
not necessary).

Client OS doesn't seem to matter. Any thoughts on why the executable
isn't launched before the reboot happens? Obviously this is a test
scenario for something else we'd like to do.

Thanks!

Hi,

The problem is that the "force reboot" option is a Distribution option,
which happens BEFORE anything that can be found under Run Options.

To accomplish what you want, I'd suggest using the NCSHTDWN tool from
Zenworks Cool Solutions:
http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/tools/1170.html
in a Termination script for your app.

If you intend to run your app as secure/unsecure system user, you'd need
to make sure the executable is on the local drive, or that the
workstation object has read/file scan to the network location of the
NCSHTDWN executable.

HTH,

Debbie

From: Mary Van Engelen <maryve1@STARPOWER.NET>
Subject: iFolder 2.0 and eDirectory

Trying to install IFolder 2.0 on a new server running NW 5.1 sp5, DS 8.83.
LDAP is running on same server. When I try to login to the management
website to extend the schema, the main webpage comes back and asks me to
login again.

I have found out that eDirectory 8.6.2 or later is a must for iFolder 2.0.
I also read that if I have upgrade protection than I can install it for
free. I have upgrade protection.

So now comes the stupid questions part:

Can I install eDir on a single server in the same tree? The instructions
for installing eDir begin with notes that say you must extend the schema on
the master replica first. I have a read-write replica on the ifolder
server. I'm assuming that the instructions were written with the idea that
someone is planning to run eDirectory on all servers. I was hoping to run
it only on the server I'm setting up, so that I don't have to do major work
being that I'm already past my deadline for implementing the new iFolder.
Also, I want to keep the amount of disruption on the rest of the network to
a minimum but the instructions go on to say that the support pack needs to
be reinstalled and servers rebooted. I'd prefer if I only had to do this on
the new server. Is that possible?

Another question has to do with license. On the download page, there is a
license that can be downloaded, but it is an eval license. Do I need to
install a separate license for eDir, or will my already installed NetWare
CLA license be sufficient?

Has anyone else done this? What are the steps?

Thanks,
Mary

It's all true, except (kidding) it will be in NW 6.1 rather than 6!.
It's difficult to tell marketing names (Yahoo!) from emotions.
Here's a long term heads up for managers. We can expect NW 6.1 to
have more web features than NW 6.0 and that means memory requirements will
grow with that list. Thus don't be surprized if 512MB becomes the opening
requirement. Do some advanced planning about memory SIMMs. This is all
speculation, of course.

I don't have a definitive answer as I have never tried, but I would not
do this on a production box.

I suspect you are asking because the real question is "is there any
reason to set a hot fix area on a RAID5 array?"

>> Also I am receiving the following message on my server console:
>>

I have not seen this specific message, but you may have a failing
drive.

I don't have much experience with DELL gear, but anytime SCSI ID info
or errors gets reported on the NW console, I would definitely load the
vendor array or disk management software IMMEDIATELY and have a look.
You may have to reboot and load the array controller BIOS utility as
well to really see what is happening.

Probably worth a call to DELL support to verify.

Thanks

Dana
