I had the same problem today - kwin started up as a black screen. My compositing \
section in kwinrc looked like this: [Compositing]
Enabled=true

Merely changing 'true' to 'false' restored kwin as normal. Using the XRender backend \
works okay, though with some unrelated bugs. No black screen, though.

My card is an ATI radeon that doesn't support AIGLX - no direct rendering, no 3D \
acceleration at all. _______________________________________________
