Yes it is an excellent start.

Not sure if I understand the "one category to be open at a time" part. The
screenshot show two open categories. It of course depends on your screen size.
But this is true that there is a lot of horizontal space lost. But for future
iteration, I can suggest to have several mode for the list, either like now
"icon + text", or a mode with just "icons" then, you could have several column
of icons bellow each category.

Why are the "plugin placeholder" and "comment" visible in the selector ? Is it
really something that a user should be able to add ? (probably worth a
seperated thread)
