If you make it as a plugin, then you can adjust the Makefile.am in 
plugin directory so it won't compile your brand-new-and-cool stuff. Only 
in your local copy you have the proper Makefile.am (if you bother, post 
a simple patch to enable it in case some guy wants to give it a try).
