A friend artist went back to using the brush full time again because of the 
'depth' several layers of oil paint can give him.

Good oil paint is a bit transparent and some color components (like a metal 
shine) are stronger then others. The result of layering paint in that way 
means that you can get a deep glow by using a certain paint 2 or 3 layers 
deeper then your top most layer.

I have just a little superficial knowledge about this stuff; so you would have 
to do more digging to find out about this stuff.

Would really be cool to have though :)
