| kchart effectively isn't usable on RH6.2, and I would guess there will be a

You can use Linux-Mandrake 7.2, it has kernel 2.2.17 and gcc 2.95.
I don't know about Beta3, but I succeeded compiling KOffice 1.1beta2 both on 
LM 7.2 and 8.0 (gcc 2.96)
