Just an aside on the latter point. Everyone working on kword agress that 
some reengineering is probably required to make the codebase more 
forward-going. The good news is that the restructuring required is 
mechanical in nature, but the bad news is that it will require a bit of 
dedicated time. It noone beats me to it, I'll probably get to it post KDE 
2.0...

In the meantime, I think that what is there is just about maintainable as 
far as the KDE 2.0 timeframes are concerned...but there is work to do too.
