Hello,

I have tried *fresh* on another Red Hat 9 system, and letting configure
install in default position (/usr/local/kde).

make and make install went without error (outside kde), just blackbox
and xterm running.

After that I:

logged out and in with kde
      set env as follows:
[marco@polaris marco]$ echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
/usr/local/kde/lib
[marco@polaris marco]$ echo $PATH
/usr/local/kde/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/home/marco/bin
[marco@polaris marco]$ echo $KDEDIR
/usr/local/kde/bin
[marco@polaris marco]$ echo $KDEDIRS
/usr/local/kde/bin
[marco@polaris marco]$

run kbuildsycoca

kword still dies without any warning at all. The check_koffice_install
script by David this time gives:

[marco@polaris marco]$ ./check_koffice_install.sh
Looking for kwordpart.desktop under services dir:
/home/marco/.kde/share/services/
Looking for kwordpart.desktop under services dir: /usr/share/services/
Looking under applnk dir: /home/marco/.kde/share/applnk-redhat/
Looking under applnk dir: /var/lib/menu/kde/Applications/

Now looking by filename

Looking under applnk dir: /home/marco/.kde/share/applnk-redhat/
Looking under applnk dir: /var/lib/menu/kde/Applications/
Found:
/var/lib/menu/kde/Applications/Office/MoreOffice/kword.desktop... ok,
this is a KOfficePart
Native mimetype : X-KDE-NativeMimeType=application/x-kword

Service Types dir /home/marco/.kde/share/servicetypes/
Service Types dir /usr/share/servicetypes/
Found /usr/share/servicetypes/kofficepart.desktop
[PropertyDef::X-KDE-NativeMimeType]

Everything looks ok

What now?

Oh, by the way, thanks again everybody for your patience and
willingness to figure out what is going on.

Ciao,
	Marco Fioretti
