This happens when a non-scalable fixed font is used.
We try to avoid such fonts as much as possible, but the Qt font selection
mechanism can end up choosing such a font if it's unicode, and the one
you chose wasn't unicode.

I suggest trying with other fonts. In particular, a good TTF font like Utopia or Verdana
should work best (even better than Arial on some systems).

Having Qt liked to Xft and having the RENDER extension also helps, but I'm
not sure you want to look into those things :)
