We try to avoid such fonts as much as possible, but the Qt font selection mechanism can end up choosing such a font if it's unicode, and the one you chose wasn't unicode. I suggest trying with other fonts. In particular, a good TTF font like Utopia or Verdana should work best (even better than Arial on some systems).
