It's a nice idea but currently you shouldn't work on this because:
1. The PGP/GnuPG will be completely reworked.
2. Currently the attachment handling is very ugly (in terms of memory 
consumption). Ideally the attachments wouldn't be added to the composed 
message until it's send. If this is changed in a future version of 
KMail then it will be very easy to encrypt (and/or compress) the 
attachments before actually attaching them to the message. The user 
could simply set a flag for encrypting/compressing each attachment 
individually.

Maybe you'll find some other wishlist items which you want to implement.
