I'm in the same category as Joseph and Klas who posted above, and I can only
say I'm aghast at the attitude that is displayed by Don on this list. Don,
it's apparent that you are a very skilled programmer and your overdone
signature is superfluous to that impression, however your people skills need
a lot of work.
I'll admit I've been sympathetic to a lot of your mails, especially since it
appears Marc does pour oil on the fire in verbal exchanges with you, but
please don't act like that excuses you doing anything you want without regard
to the other developers: Regardless of the history, regardless of how much
you have contributed to KMail, you don't *own* it; it's the result of the
work of many people and a lot of contributions are much more ephemeral than
cvs commits. Organization, cooperation and being respectful to others are at
least as important as being a hotshot programmer, and if you exhibit these
qualities you won't need to toot your own horn so much, other people will
toot it for you.
You have a lot of great ideas, and I'm looking forward to trying out a lot of
the features you have implemented and are implementing in make_it_cool, but
frankly those features will end up in KMail sooner or later even without you,
and ignoring what the other developers are doing will only make it later
because the other developers are more likely to pay attention to your
personality rather than your technical arguments.
Please don't lose sight of the fact that if you're working on this project you
will have to make compromises sometimes. If you want people to be impressed
with you, show us how you can swallow your pride and accept that your way
isn't always the only (or even the best) one. I'm sure you would get a lot
more praise by doing that than by having the fastest commit in the West.
regards,
