Package: kmail
Version: KDE 3.0.0 CVS/CVSup/Snapshot
Severity: normal
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: Not Specified
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

I removed ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/imap/.host.directory/INBOX while KMail was running \
(and displaying my inbox) in the hopes it would automatically rebuild the local \
header cache. Instead, it gave me 200 messageboxes with a warning that file doesn't \
exist, giving kwin and kicker a really hard time.

The reason I removed the file is because of another KMail bug: there were 20000 test \
mails in my account on the server and I deleted them there with mutt. KMail however \
didn't rebuild its cache and happily displayed all of those mails. It's impossible to \
read the contents since the mails are deleted, but the header cache isn't updated. I \
guess KMail should update it as soon as it encounters a header entry which is no \
longer on the server (there might be more).
