Excellent idea !

Btw I think if you do it right there is no over-configurability (if you do it 
right). You just have to distinguish the default user from your power user. I 
think it is good that KDE tries to be newbie friendly and actually thinks 
about user interface (which many open source projects don't think about) but 
while being "windows-user friendly" I'd like it to be useful to a power user 
too.

Thats the greatest problem I see with Linux becoming user friendly, it will 
become more and more unfriendly to users which used Linux even before the 
hype.

So having some good defaults and some configuration options available to 
standard users is good. But if a user wants to change something which can be 
made configurable (such as in this case), you should make it possible. You 
just have to be careful to not overload the interface with every option but 
structure and present it the right way.
