And once you get one, do other messages in that folder also look like that?  I 
don't think it has any relationship with gmail.  I'd guess that your other 
accounts are in different folders.  Correct?

If so, this is the bug that no-one has managed to trace.  Something corrupts 
an index file.  I've seen it happen if something caused a crash, but it's not 
necessarily following a crash.  This is how to deal with it.

Don't open any more mail until you have dealt with it.  Close kmail.  Find 
your mail folders, usually in ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail.  Find the index files 
related to the affected folder.  Delete them all.  They will be recreated 
when you open kmail.

Let us know whether that cures the problem.
