I did not see anyone reply to your question.
FYI the opensuse mailing list will usually get you some help with SuSE-related
questions :-)

	"e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org"

As far as upgrading KDE: for sure you want to use the upgrade packages built
by SuSE for SuSE. There are various ways to do this. Some of the ways are
described on these pages:

http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/Upgrade
http://en.opensuse.org/Updating_KDE_and_other_software_via_YaST
http://susewiki.org/index.php?title=Updating_KDE_and_other_applications_via_YaST

"SMART" is a very good tool, and faster than YaST, but if you want a
point-and-click interface, you might be happier using YaST as described at
the top of the first link. Here's a goog tutorial on installing smart:

http://susewiki.org/index.php?title=Smart

There is more thatn one KDE upgrade repository. Some are just official
updates, some are backports from newer releases to work with the older
released versions (so youget new features without having to upgrade your
entire system), others are complete upgrades to the latest KDE releases for
older versions of SuSE.
