Sorry Tami and everyone.  I've been busy with other things the past week.
All this does sound like a bug(s) that was introduced in 3.5.5 (probably by me).

Tami, could you send me a summary of the problem... basically sythesize
this thread down to what you think the bug really is. 

I'm pretty swamped trying to make some new features available in KDE 3.5.6,
not to mention porting to KDE4.
