The first occurrence of such a recurring appointment is shown here
(marked as "(1/2): Night shift" resp. "(2/2): Night shift"). Further
occurrences are indeed not shown. So you seem to have found a bug.
Please submit a report via Help->Report Bug.
Until the bug is fixed you'll have to use the workaround you already
found (i.e. splitting the appointment in two).
