This is absolutely no equivalent. 
Think about korganizer on a notebook without permanent network connectivity.
How would it access the file? Also, if I add a new event in my notebook,
how would the PC at home ever get this? And finally, do you always switch
on and connect your notebook to your PC at home?

Face it: Syncing IS necessary.
