Using the latest NVIDIA drivers (1.0-1251) my system locks up after between
5-25 minutes and i have to hard reboot , same with either Nvdriver or agpgart
(worse with agpgart only 5 minutes). the Nvdriver only works if agpgart is
loaded also and i have to log out regularly or apps start freezing.Windows
freeze for 2-10 seconds after opening and GL apps would crash because i had
agpgart resident in the kernel, option "NVAgp" "0" returns an error about
kernel nvdriver not being initialized and X wont start up. The nvidia logo
splash screen really pissed me off too. Eventually i recompiled
XFree86-4.0.3-11 ( redhat rawhide) with nvidias GL includes and stopped using
the nvidia XFree driver and kernel module. Gl works well enough now (GL
screensavers always crashed for me before with standard xfree drivers but not
anymore) and i get
about 40 fps with gears not blistering but better than not at all.
Whether or not this is at all related is anyone's guess
