I was thinking about something like that myself for the search bar but
found a few issues I couldn't resolve yet:

*Space issues: If the location bar is pretty small or the link the user
typed in fairly long, the warning message inside the text field poses
space issues. The question is where to put it then without covering the
malformed url? In special circumstances it may happen that the location
bar is too small to even show the whole error message at all.

*Localization. What's so short in english may be pretty long in other
languages. "Malformed URL" becomes e.g. "URL mal formee" in French or
"Ungueltige Adresse" in German. Again the message may take up too much
space of an already limited widget.

Any ideas how to solve this?

Florian
