  The way you install apps on OS X works to Apple's advantage here, because to 
show a list of installed applications, all you have to do is to list the 
contents of the Applications folder. Which is exactly what they do. You drop 
the Applications folder onto the Dock, where it turns into an alias to that 
folder, and if you hold down your mouse button (like you would a combo button 
in KDE), you get the contents of the folder listed in a popup menu. Not 
saying wether it's good or bad, but that's how it's done in OS X :)
