There is one thing that they all have incommon: they use text links, often

Again, this is a technical perspective. Don't get me wrong, I agree. But from
a user point of view the above is completely irrelevant for me.

The things I'd like to see are:
1) A sidebar which displays informative text
2) Long icon descriptions
3) 1 and 2 done in a clean and attractive way (subjective ofcourse..)
