which is why the details settings would be shown if the user requests "More
Options". i'm not saying to remove the options, just that there may not be a
need to show them immediately.

of course, this would require the defaults to be consistent (e.g. highlight
turned on everywhere), and truthfully, i haven't checked if they are yet.
perhaps someone who knows?
