Thanks for the message, Dan. It would be great to have a bunch of KDE
folks in Bellingham for the Fest too. Especially after you've gotten
your chops down at SCALE.

BLUG folks are good friends with Ilan and Gareth at SCALE. We've been
finding ways to work together promoting regional fests. Zonker is
great support too.

Exhibit tables are free to non-profits and projects. Admission to the
exhibit and presentations are all free too.

If there's enough interest among the KDE group, it might be a good
idea to consider a KDE 4 track with a series of presentations. The
Fest attracts ordinary folks who would like to hear about the Desktop
of the Year, as well as ultra-techies would enjoy the opportunity to
debate abstraction layers or Plasmoid programming.

Please let me know if you need more information. You can sign up for
an exhibit table or to give presentations at
www.linuxfestnorthwest.org. If you decide to do a track, please let me
know and add that information in the registration comments.

Well... out west, everything is just a short drive away...maybe over
to Vancouver and down to Washington. Last year, the Fest came just as
your KDE baby was seeing the light of day. It has come an amazingly
long way.

Over the 10 years of LFNW, there have been several leading lights of
open source here. It would be great to have you come and speak about
KDE 4 or UI philosophy, or whatever. It is a low key, appreciative
tech crowd.

This will be the third year of the Fest being held on Saturday and
Sunday. People were complaining that Saturday didn't give enough time
to get around to everything. Plus, having people in town Saturday
night gave us an excuse to throw a party. We don't have an exact way
to keep track of attendance, because the Fest is free and people
wander freely. However, we estimate that there are between 1200 and
1500 people who attend.

Your son might enjoy the activities we've put together for
geeklings...robots (including build your own), as well as scavenging
robot parts out of old mice, CD drives and whatnot. There will be
things going on with Scratch (scratch.mit.edu) and Sugar (OLPC).

We just got back for a an awesome show at SCALE 7x. Everyone there really
pulled together and we really had a good impact there. I think we could
organize a booth to be there. Once we all land in our respective places we
can try to organize what is next. I really want to get our US community going
again and feed in some new developers. I really think these regional linux
shows are exactly what the KDE project needs.

Please let me know what you need on this end to pull something
together. This is a good event to be in contact with tech folks. Low
key, minimal marketing flash and noise.

Exhibit space is free to non-profits, open source projects and the
like. It would also be a good opportunity to show off KDE 4 at
different levels of sophistication. The hard core techies here are
just now dipping their toes into the new desktop. It would be valuable
for them to get the details from people who understand them.

Carl
