Nice to know you are lurking here! I think your hard work has great
promotional value for KDE.

Your disk can help with one aspect of promotion that is rarely
discussed here: retaining/recruiting new free software KDE
contributors. As you mention in your mail, your disk can provide an
easy on-ramp for a potential new developer.

Speaking from experience, (coming from developing on a windows
platform), anonymous CVS and compiling from source can be a
significant barrier--there is a lot to learn, it often does not work
right the first time, and it takes a significant investment in time.
Your disk cuts this time investment _dramatically_.

(Along these lines, can someone put your CD in, modify a source file
and recompile, then run their modified KDE app?)

I think it would be great to link your page from developer.kde.org and
promo.kde.org, publish a dot story, and write a press release for the
trade press. Just describe the download properly (and implement
Charles' KSplash idea) and then caveat emptor. From my perspective,
the benefits far outweight the risks.

For developer conferences, it would also be a great handout at the KDE
booth.

Best Regards,

Mark
