You can export to vCard 3.0 which _is_ the native format that 
KAddressBook uses. You can also export to other formats because some 
programs might not be able to import vCard, but the preferable export 
format is vCard 3.0.

You can. But for most people exporting and importing is way easier. And 
if you want to merge two addressbooks then you can't simply copy a 
file.
