Hello,
as a technically skilled person but non-developer, I'm very confused
about kde-pim. I'm going to describe the reasons for this confusion, as
feedback to you, the developers of this great effort.
Concrete Questions first:
* What's the difference of kmail and kmailcool?
* If I pull kde-pim from cvs, will this include 'kontakt' and the
kroupware komponents?
Reasons for consusion:
* Too many entry points: kde-pim, kontakt, and different websites for
each sub-project.
For my a user, PIM is a single 'product', maybe with some extensions.
The merging of kmail, knorte, etc. into the kdepim cvs-tree (as done
in Januaryy 2003) shows to me, that the developers have the same point
of view.
But way are there still so much different Websites?
I strongly suggest merging the websites into a single one, stating the
main components (kmail, korg., etc.) and the add-ons (kpilot, kandy,
etc).
* Too many names for equal stuff, but no statement about this.
Esp. I'm confused about the relation and integration-status of kpilot,
kpilot-conduits, kitchensync, ksync, etc. They all serve the same
perspose, but which one is production-ready, which is a design-study,
which one is upcoming?
And what's the difference between kmail and kmailcool? Unknown, äh,
un-cool!
* Regarding www.kontakt.org:
What is 'kontakt'? An approach to merge the kde-pim komponents into a
single desktop (like evolution or outlook)? I assume, but why this is
not written there?
For much for now. I hope this feedback will help you improofing the
useability of kde-pim (and related).
Regards
Hartmut Goebel
