And in the darkness bind them.

Because it's the interface we have chosen. There's work being done on multiple 
addressbook resources (backends) and on different views (frontends). You can 
latch onto that if you want.

Not much as far as I'm concerned. But having three addressbook frontends in 
the past meant that there was a vast confusion on the UI front what did what, 
and the programmer's interface was unfortunately not very standardized. Now 
there's libkabc and it _is_ the interface. User choice good. Programmer 
having to support every interface ever invented bad.
