Just checked the code. An application is considered not translated in a 
language if there is no $lang/LC_MESSAGES/$appname.mo file.

I bumped into this situation while running test programs: KIconThemes (my 
guinea pig for KI18n work) provides a few manual test programs like 
kicondialogtest or kiconbuttontest. Those programs show KIconThemes dialog 
boxess but they won't be translated because the test programs themselves do 
not have an installed .mo file.

Chusslove suggested manually setting the catalog name to ki18n5 in the test 
files. That should work around the issue but it is one more thing to add to 
all test programs. I'd rather have translations which work out of the box 
for test programs just like they work out of the box with real (translated) 
applications.
