There is also solution c: a compromise where we keep the translation on 
trunk/l10n-kde4 for 4.0.1 and then move it to the branch. This way we could 
keep us translators focused on the 4.0 translation for another month or so, 
and then each team could decide if continuing focusing on the stable branch, 
or start working on head too.
