problem with that is that you risk in getting different translated versions of 
the GNU tools: the one done by the distributor (like ubuntu with rosettta and 
linspire with irma) and the official translation done by someone who did send 
a paper mail to USA and got his work into the GNU utils themself.

Different versions of translations of the same tools, be it GNU or KDE, 
degrade the quality and usability of the translations in general and will 
make it hard for users to communicate with eachother.
