comments/thoughts:

* you probably want to post these to plasma-devel where the plasma devs can 
discuss it with you more

* i like the mockup for the new main page, though there are several things 
that we would probably end up tidying up if the project is accpted (though the 
"Show on startup" checkbox can be removed;  the Resume should probably list 
the last N items directly (why make them go through another step?); etc...)

* C++ is not a target language (eliminating all those problems); this is for 
scripting only. KDevelop and other IDEs are much, much better for C++ than 
plasmate ever will or can be given its design goals.

* i don't think it makes sense to make the user immediately fill in their 
author information, etc. in the current implementation, this is just another 
editor available to them and they can immediately start working on their 
project. immediacy is _everything_ for plasmate. it should be one click and 
you're working on your code.

* some of the things in your proposal are already implemented, such as 
creating a new plasmoid.
