Done.

I tried, no difference.

I had a look and I have to disagree:
if I "strace -p" on famd, it shows that nothing's happening there, it's just waiting.
On the other hand, if I "strace -p" on kded (with mediamanager loaded), I see

gettimeofday({1108044108, 513203}, NULL) = 0
gettimeofday({1108044108, 513394}, NULL) = 0
ioctl(4, FIONREAD, [0]) = 0
gettimeofday({1108044108, 513741}, NULL) = 0
select(12, [3 4 5 7 10 11], [], [], {0, 498420}) = 0 (Timeout)

appearing twice per second, in sync with the blinking light,
and sometimes it reads from file descriptor 4.
According to /proc, fd 4 is socket:[10126]
Hmm, how do I go from there? Grepping in /proc shows no other socket:[10126].
netstat -anp says
unix 3 [ ] STREAM CONNECTED 10126 4184/kdeinit: kded

If we still have chances to "fix" it, let's do that first.
