Your problem is far from basic or trivial.

See bug #87209 (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87209). I believe that's 
the source of your problem.

There's either a bug in gcc or in ld which causes symbols defined with a 
changed visibility attribute to fail linking. Try the solution posted there 
and see if it helps.
