That's fine. That doesn't mean that we should make it impossible for the user
to change it without modifying the source code.

No, it shouldn't. There's a reason why we aren't GNOME. That's their
philosophy, and it works fine for them, but it's not ours. There are a lot of
current KDE users who are with us because the whole "Let's decide everything
for the user and take away their options" attitude is extremely presumptuous,
and they use our desktop because we don't do that to them.
Should we automatically pick what we think is the best default? Absolutely.
Should we do everything possible to make it perform as fast as possible on
every machine that it could run on? Of course.
But should we take away the user's ability to turn it off because somebody
thinks they know better than the enduser? No way in hell.
