Ok, I have read the code, more or less, but I still don't understand 
what the problem is.

You say the program blocks in read(2). Was there anything to be read? 
Did you place the socket in non-blocking mode?

More importantly: where is the KDE code? I see no QStrings, QValueLists 
or KExtendedSockets in your code. You said something about 
KIO::TCPSlaveBase (which is in kdelibs/kio/kio/tcpslavebase.{h,cpp}, by 
the way), but I fail to see the relation.
