I'm not sure of the answer to that, but it is already possible to do the same 
thing with several other tools.  You can use KGPG and Konqueror to encrypt/
decrypt files, or even use an encrypted filesystem within Linux, and I'm sure 
encrypted filesystems exist in other Unices as well.
