how about adding one more button to the applet for spell checking? or changing 
the M button to do a proper spellcheck? 

this is probably something to discuss with the kdict maintainer, who appears 
to be Christian Gebauer (gebauer@kde.org)

btw, i tried building your applet but the tarball you provided for download 
appears to be missing the kclipspellapplet.h file?

inherently, nothing. realistically, though, if there are multiple applets that 
do (from a user perspective) similar things it can be confusing which one to 
pick or why there are so many similar applets. there's also the issue of 
space in the applet menu, space on the panel, etc...

no, it isn't. select a phrase and hit the "C" button.

or make it less confusing by making the spell check actually check spelling. 
the current implementation asks the dict servers for possible matches, but 
that's of rather limited use IMHO...
