sorry, i should've been more verbose (imagine *me* saying that ;): the items 
at the top are quite obviously navigational (visually), while the items at 
the bottom are not nearly so (i've tested this on users). the Week # button, 
for example, shows a button on hover-over, but there's little indication what 
clicking it means... most don't even get to the "hover over it" stage. it 
seems many/most users use the nav at the top and disregard the nav at the 
bottom because of the difference in obviousness of purpose.

in that light, putting "Today" down below will be less than effective and even 
"look" out of place (unless the user understands the fact that the bottom is 
actually usable as navigation)

yes, making the lower navigation more obvious as to its purpose would be a 
good option.
