There are 846 cvs accounts. 95 of those have been used in the last 2 days.
I can't give data for a longer period because we only keep track of it for 2 
days :) Come back next week for more :) 

There are of course many contributors that do not have a CVS account of their 
own. (Mostly doc, graphics, pr, translation ppl) There are somewhat more than 
40 active translation teams, I assume that at least one member of each team 
has a cvs account, but I don't know the average team size.

apps.kde.com has 1,725 registered applications, but that number includes 
Qt-only applications as well. 

It should be possible to get a hold of the number of registered bugreporters 
as well, but I don't know how.

All in all I think that 1000/10000 is somewhat high and that 500/5000 is 
closer to reality. Still a guess of course :)
